Great news Knoxville! Sprint is testing 4G in Knoxville as of March 1, 2011. No more wasting the 10.00/month extra fee for 4g. This is about 400 percent faster than 3g data. I had a 3.5meg download 1Meg upload! I tested it with an HTC Evo at Sam's Club off Walbrook and also Middlebrook between Gallaher View Rd. and West Hills. Going west the signal seems to die around Workout Anytime/Calhouns at Pellissippi. Turn your 4g radio on to see if you have signal now. Please post your test results in the comments below.
Current Sprint Phones with 4g
- Evo Shift 4G
- Samsung Epic 4g
- HTC Evo
Signal is very spotty out there. On I-40, the 4g signal seemed to pickup about the west hills exit and then drop off after the cedar bluff exit. Gf is in that area and she's had a steady 4g signal since last week, think she topped out at 5.5 mb/s download. Btw, ookla has their speedtest app available on the market. Hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteI was getting 4g signal in Maryville over the past 2 weeks around foothills mall and downtown but now it wont connect. It flashes "connecting to sprint" then disconnects quickly.
ReplyDeleteGoing into east knoxville it stops by the police station and I live about 1/2 a mile outside the 4g area, and I'm so very close to downtown.
ReplyDeleteI tested this weekend after reading about this...I got signal very briefly on Pellissipi where it crosses over 40/75. anything behind kingston pike towards maryville, had no luck. I was locked in at the applebees at cedar bluff. I got speeds of 6.60 there...Hopefully this means its coming soon...Anyone else testing, please post results and thanks for this heaads up...

I have only been able to get it when I am in the West Hills area around the Mall and off Middlebrook Pike near Cedar Bluff. When it does connect, the speeds are great.
